Online therapy and Covid-19- how it can help

As of today's date it may still be difficult to provide individual therapy from my consulting room. Following advice from both my insurance company and several member organisations that I belong, I believe that it would still be unsafe to see individual clients in my consulting rooms for a period of 90 minutes or more, which is my normal appointment session time.

The use of Skype, Zoom and other ways of delivering ‘remote’ therapy may not suit many clients. However psychotherapists, hypnotherapists and psychologists throughout the world are having to now find new ways of working. For those of you who are hoping to book a session with me please read the following information.

We now need to address the "new normal" and think of ways we can provide therapy to those who need it. At the same time I'm also aware that those most in need of therapy may feel they cannot afford it. I am already working with a small number of clients remotely. These may be individuals that I have never met and are unlikely to meet; they live in varying parts of the country and in some cases even in a different country.

Many of us are now learning to adapt to this new way of working. Although I still hope and intend to work on an individual basis with clients from my consulting room this may not be possible some time. With immediate effect prospective clients may book a FREE online zoom session with myself for 30 minutes. Availability will be limited. If you prefer, you can also ring me for a 30-minute free assessment.

If therapy is to then continue, we can arrange a zoom appointment at a suitably convenient time. The cost of this will not differ as any hypnotherapy will be an individual recording that will be provided within 24 hours of therapy. I will also provide ongoing work to be completed between sessions. Sessions of psychotherapy, CBT and counselling will last at least 50 minutes and the zoom platform will be used.

For individuals hoping to start EMDR, my preference is to conduct these sessions on a person to person basis in my consulting room. However it may be possible to teach ways of containing and controlling unhelpful thoughts and traumatic flashbacks. This can be done online.

If you have further questions your best option would be to contact me by telephone on my office number which is 01246 416544.
